BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two people are dead after being shot during a domestic dispute early Saturday morning. Birmingham Police Sergeant Johnny Williams says around 12:45 AMSaturday, 27 year old Tiffany Smith of Birmingham was shot and killed at 3925 Howard Avenue. Officers from the West Precinctresponded to a call of a female shot at the location. When officers arrived, they discovered Smith suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Witnesses on the scene tell investigators that 28 year old Charlie Coleman of Birmingham shot Smith.
During the investigation, Coleman returned to the crime scene in a silver Chevrolet Impala, and fired a gun to his head. Coleman's car however was not in park, and hit a Birmingham Police Officer's patrol car. That officer did not receive any injuries.
Birmingham Police Department Homicide Detective, Lt. Scott Praytor says, "if somebody would have taken a few seconds to stop and think, this didn't have to happen... it was senseless that two people had to lose their lives."
The Birmingham Police Department says their preliminary investigation shows the deaths were a result of a domestic dispute that started at Pebble Creek Parkway on Friday evening. Reports show Smith struck Coleman with a pole and shot at him, before following him to the incident location.
